Biodegradable washing powders
Switch to washing powders that are biodegradable and plant based (such as Ecover.) They clean without the bleach and phosphates that threaten river and marine life. Plus, they don't leave a chemical residue on your dishes.

Luca, although you might not know this (ha!) we've recently switched to this brand of laundry detergent and I'm loving it. It smells great, not too perfumey, and really works on stains (for certain people who play soccer and come home covered in grass and mud.)
